June 18, 2021
2021 is turning out to be one hell of an eventful year! Here’s a summary of all that happened so far:
- January Shattered Our Hopes!
We all entered 2021 with new hope expecting it to be better than that dreadful 2020. But alas! bad news started pouring in from the first week itself. Remember the attack on the US Capitol by Trump supporters?
Then the farmers’ protest in Delhi took a violent turn. All our hopes went down the drain and we knew it might not get better anytime soon.
Yet, the year was indeed lucky for a certain billionaire. Elon Musk became the 2nd richest person surpassing Bill Gates!
- February Was Sinister Too!
Floods in Uttarakhand, wildfires in Australia, violent protests in Myanmar: February came bearing bad news from all directions. On top of that Guinea declared an Ebola pandemic. As if one pandemic wasn’t enough to shake our lives!
However we had a shimmer of hope when BJP announced the successful defeat of COVID-19 in India under Narendra Modi leadership. Who knew this was just the calm before the storm!
- March Wasn’t That Bad!
COVID restrictions were lifted from most parts of the country. Also, vaccines were finally available for mass usage. Dalai Lama and Dolly Parton took a step ahead and got vaccinated.
Our queen- Beyonce, broke the record by winning the most number of Grammys at the 63rd Grammy Awards.
Moreover, how can we forget the controversial Meghan – Harry interview with Oprah that took the world by storm.
- And Then Came April!
Finally the inevitable happened! Overall COVID cases in India crossed the 100,000 mark and Maharashtra was the worst hit state. Second wave came with a new COVID strain having more severe consequences.
Oxygen cylinders were scarce and old treatments became redundant. Our healthcare system collapsed. Death percentage because of COVID increased. Turned out 2021 was even worse than 2020!
In other news, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and Queen Elizabeth’s husband died in this same month. Naturally the internet went crazy over speculations of Prince Harry attending the funeral.
- May Continued The Legacy!
COVID crisis in India that started in April continued for the first half of May as well. Government launched Co-WIN for mass vaccination including people above 18 years as well. Yet getting an OTP and booking a slot turned out to be one hell of a task.
Meanwhile, news of deadly fungal infections started doing the rounds.
Shockingly Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) was finally close to winning the IPL but couldn’t. BCCI had to cancel the event as several players were tested positive for COVID disappointing RCB fans again.
That’s it! It’s been only 5 months and we have seen everything from pandemic to break up of the royal family. Let’s see what else this year has in store for us!
